On Tuesday, August 22nd, Mother Nature did her level best to rain on the Oktobenefest event put on at Southern Tier Brewing Company. Despite the inclement weather, 300 people came out to attend and help raise funds for St. Susan Center. According to Jeffrey Smith, executive director, “Mother Nature was defeated by the Spirit of St. Susan and everyone who came out and supported Oktobenefest. The result of the evening was over $6,000 raised to take a bite out of hunger.”
This is the 10th time that Southern Tier Brewing has hosted the event for the soup kitchen and it didn’t disappoint. There was live music all night long by local musicians including Brian Hannah, Randy Graham, Rebecca McIlvain, Ryan Buzzeto, and Juli Bessey. Smith said he wanted to thank all the musicians who donated their time to play for the event and a special thanks to Bill Ward who coordinated all the entertainment.
Michael Corey, Treasurer for St. Susan Center said in his statement, “Thanks to Owners Phin & Sara DeMink at Southern Tier Brewing Company for hosting this event again. We also want to thank General Manager Mike Osgood and his staff for all their hard work in setting the event up and assisting us throughout the day.
