For the third consecutive year, more than 100 baskets of donated items will be auctioned for the benefit of St. Susan Center.
The center will attempt to usher in the spring season with its 13th annual Spring Ahead basket fair fundraiser, which will be held Saturday, March 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jamestown Community College physical education building. Ticket sales for the baskets will be held between 11 a.m and 1:30 p.m., and all tickets must be placed by 1:45 p.m. so that the drawing can begin at 2 p.m.
“The basket fair is one of our largest fundraisers throughout the year, so this is vital for us to be able to provide the meals and services that we do at the center,” said Jeffrey Smith, St. Susan Center executive director. “The need in our community keeps going up and up every month, and so it really makes a big difference when people come out and support an event like this like they have for the past 13 years.”
The baskets available for auction will include a vast array of items that Smith said would appeal to anyone who attended the event. Additionally, three grand prize items and a mega prize will also be available.
The grand prizes include a 60-inch flat screen TV, a new 32GB I-Pad Pro and a framed Buffalo Sabres jersey signed by No. 2 overall pick Jack Eichel.
Smith said tickets for the grand prize items are currently available for purchase at St. Susan Center, located in the Jamestown Gateway Center at 31 Water St., and absentee ballots are also available for purchase for those who are unable to attend the event but would like to enter for a chance to win.
The mega prize will include a new set of patio furniture, a barbecue grill and $100 in steaks from the Kansas City Steak Company.
As in recent years, food will be provided by the St. Susan Center-operated Comfort Cafe, which will be open for the duration of the event. New to this year, Smith said, will be live music provided by the band Greatest Hits. Prime Time DJ Services will also serve as emcee.
Tickets for individual baskets can be purchased at $5 for six tickets, $10 for 12 tickets and two door prize tickets, and $20 for 30 tickets and four door prize tickets. Grand prize tickets are available at $10 each or three for $25. The mega prize tickets are $15 each, three for $40 or five for $50.
This year’s basket fair is sponsored by Jamestown Awning and Wegmans.
