The 8th Annual Charity Golf Classic was held July 29th at Chautauqua Golf Club. The field of 92 golfers played 18 holes on one of the most challenging courses in the area. The day was again complete with several friendly competitions for the Men and Ladies including Closest to the pin on Number 6 where Matt Fuller and Fran Guichard won the contest. The putting contest winner was Deborah Brown who took home a Free Boat Rental courtesy of Smith Boys Marina.
Jeffrey Smith, Executive Director of St. Susan Center said, “St. Susan Center wishes to express special thanks to Jim Pullan of Jamestown Mattress for being the tournament sponsor this year and to all of our added sponsors and participants who came out to support our event.” Smith went on to say that, “this tournament continues to grow in popularity as we had 12 more players this year than we did last year. We also added a Mixed Division this year and more couples came and played in the event.
At the conclusion of Dinner Jon DeAngelo, Tournament Chairman announced the winning teams. With an overall score of 59 Jerry Strok, Doug Vergith, Bob Gervasi, and Dick Cole took home the Men’s Division.
DeAngelo Said “The winning team will have bragging rights until next year’s Charity Golf Classic at Chautauqua Golf Club on July 28th, as well as free entry to next year’s Classic and the names of winning team members and a picture will go on a plaque that will be hung proudly at St. Susan Center.
The runners-up from 2016 and 2017 were also the runners-up this year, shooting a 61 were Mark Panebianco, Zack Panebianco, Steve Sishco and Evan Gray. Golfer, Mark Panebianco joked, “I guess we’re becoming the Buffalo Bills of this tournament finishing second again.”
The winners in the Mixed Division were Dave Mathews, Dale Mathews, Ricci D’ Angelo and Nicole Ditcher also with a score of 59. In second place were Bill Johnson, Kathie Johnson, Chuck Schick and Daryl Anderson.
The one-day event netted over $7,500 to help St. Susan Center “feed the need” in our community.
