Pay it Forward with “Suspended Soup”
Today we ask for your help in paying it forward to those who need help. As you enjoy your soup and the great music tonight, would you consider donating an extra $5, $10, or more so that the St. Susan Center’s kitchen staff can make soup 361 days a year for those in need? “Suspended Soup” can be donated in the containers at the ticket table or the 50-50 table. They can also be donated here on our website.
The Tradition of “Suspended Coffee”
Suspended coffee, or caffe sospeso, is a tradition that comes from Naples, Italy, and dates to at least the turn of the 20th century. When customers buy coffee, they also pay in advance for a cup to be given to somebody else — usually someone who otherwise couldn’t afford it.”
The tradition of suspended coffee has made its way from Italy to the
rest of the world.
Kindness can come in many forms, including the purchase of a suspended coffee, which is the very idea that inspired this movement. A suspended coffee is the advance purchase of a cup of coffee for someone who needs it, no matter why. But, it really is about so much more than the coffee. It can provide physical comfort, conversation, a smile or even a laugh, and a sense of belonging. A suspended coffee can change lives, sometimes even save them.”
Even more, the tradition has expanded to suspended pizza slices and sandwiches. It is an opportunity for people to pay it forward to someone else – maybe someone in financial need, or even just for someone having a bad day.
At St. Susan Center, we’d like to extend the “suspended coffee” concept via our Soup and Song events by offering an opportunity to further support our mission by participating in St. Susan’s “Suspended Soup” program. Please see the other side for more details. Thank you for your support!
